WHILE football may not be immediately associated with decentralised finance, one man is spearheading the use of Bitcoin in the world's favourite sport.
As a long-standing champion of the flagship cryptocurrency, Peter McCormack has always had a big voice in the industry, but it is as chairman of a UK football club where he is seriously making waves in the world of DeFi.
And, on September 13 at The Digital Commonwealth Mansion House Summit in the heart of London, the Real Bedford FC chief will be joining editorial director Darren Parkin on stage to discuss how Bitcoin and football are a match made in heaven.
"I'll admit to being a little bit excited about chatting to the brilliant Peter McCormack at Mansion House, but I'm even more thrilled that we're going to be weaving the beautiful game into the day's diary of discussions about Web3, crypto, blockchain, AI and everything else our industry envelopes," said The Digital Commonwealth's Darren Parkin.
"As a massive Leeds United and Scotland fan, I've had more than my fair share of ups and downs following football, but to be able to see what Peter is doing with Real Bedford and how Bitcoin is being deployed through just about every level of the club is providing all of us with a remarkable insight into how football can benefit and be financially reshaped with digital assets.
"The truly superb thing unfolding at Real Bedford is that the processes and practices Peter has put in place aren't just some vanity project experiment, we are actually all witnessing a live blueprint for how Bitcoin can be used in football."
